A decoration on the entrance

Gion area, Kyoto sightseeing
Gion area, Kyoto sightseeing
This decoration is hang on the entrance of some of houses in Kyoto.

This is called Chimaki, perhaps made from straws and can keep bad lucks away from a house.

But I don't see this kind of decoration in Tokyo.

Tokyo and Kyoto have some different habits though both are in Japan.

from the second photo, the small decoration looks like a small straw model/puppy.
it reminds me that in China, some places have a kind of custom (now selcom can see ) that some family would put a small mirror just on the entrance to keep the bad luck far away from the house.
interesting.

jing: Maybe the custom was imported from your country. Small mirror is used in shrine. In those days mirror meant the sun. So people used to thank the sun and put the mirror.
zannnie: Oh, yatta---!!
giuce: each country has different custom. Aloe is used as a medicine for little cut and graze, and we can eat it with yoghurt.
