This is a tea house. Tea house is usually small and simple one like this. Guests go into the house only through a small opening, called nigiri-guchi.

I didn't realize that I hadn't been back to your site since December 2nd! I had much catching up to do!
Great choice for photographs. For instance, I had always wondered why they wore white make-up.
