June 2008 Theme Day: My corner local shop, in Kyoto, Japan

June 2008 Theme Day: My corner local shop, in Kyoto, Japan

At the entrance of traditional shops and restaurants in Kyoto is such cloth, called noren, hung. Most of traditional wooden buildings have sliding doors at the entrance and the cloth goes very well with the door. The clothes have a purpose and if the cloth is hung, it shows that a shop is open.

I like how you caught the woman with the noren. Your photography always shows Japanese design so well.

Norens make very nice home decor pieces, too. And you can add to the Japanese charm of your home with ikebana (Japanese floral arrangement), Japanese paintings, tatami mats, rice paper screens, and so many more interesting Japanese ideas. (Perhaps an indoor koi pond, too.)
