A garden
This building is very open and best to see a garden. A scattering of light pinks of some azaleas adds the garden to the beauty. A month later the leaves will be dying and the garden will be another looking, full of yellow and red of maple leaves over azaleas.
By the way, the late Princess Diana visited the house when she was in Kyoto 20 years ago. She visited there in May and so perhaps see the flowers. When people hear that fact, these pinks might remind people of the rose...

I really like the light in your photo!!! Second I like this kind of building!!
It reminds me the old memories of Japan, even back to the peaceful and pure pre-industrial era.

jing: Pre-industrial buildings have still remained in Kyoto. I wonder when you were in Kyoto.
mike c: This is Shisendo(詩仙堂), not Shiseido, temple, in the northeast of Kyoto city. You might want to see the temple if you have a chance to go to Kyoto again!
mmm..i think autumn colours will make this garden even more striking :)
